Tragedy on the Slopes: Two Skiers Killed in Colorado Avalanches
Deadly Snowslides Strike
At least two skiers have lost their lives and four others were injured in separate avalanche incidents that occurred in Colorado over the weekend. The first tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon when a skier was killed in an avalanche in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness near Aspen.
Another Life Lost
In a second tragic incident, another skier was killed in an avalanche on Monday morning in the San Juan Mountains. Four additional skiers were caught in the avalanche and suffered various injuries. Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene to assist the survivors and recover the victim's body.
Recent Avalanche Fatalities
These latest avalanche fatalities bring the total number of deaths in Colorado during the 2023 season to two. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) reported that 20 people were caught in avalanches during the 2021-22 season, with seven of those incidents resulting in fatalities.
