Cpap Therapy

CPAP and Inspire: Alternative Treatments for Sleep Apnea

CPAP Therapy

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a common treatment for sleep apnea. CPAP machines deliver pressurized air through a mask worn over the nose or mouth. This air pressure helps to keep the airway open during sleep, preventing apnea episodes. CPAP therapy can be effective in reducing symptoms of sleep apnea, such as snoring, daytime sleepiness, and morning headaches. However, CPAP therapy can also be uncomfortable and inconvenient, and some patients may not be able to tolerate it.

Inspire Therapy

Inspire therapy is a newer treatment option for sleep apnea. Inspire devices are implanted under the skin and stimulate the hypoglossal nerve, which controls the muscles of the tongue. This stimulation helps to keep the airway open during sleep, preventing apnea episodes. Inspire therapy is less invasive than CPAP therapy and may be more comfortable for some patients. However, Inspire therapy is also more expensive than CPAP therapy, and it is not yet as widely available.

Which Treatment is Right for You?

The best treatment for sleep apnea will vary depending on the individual patient. CPAP therapy is a well-established treatment that is effective in reducing symptoms of sleep apnea. Inspire therapy is a newer treatment option that may be more comfortable for some patients. Your doctor can help you decide which treatment is right for you.
