‘Completely unacceptable’: Track and field legend Carl Lewis calls for change after Team USA is disqualified

An Olympic legend has called on USATF to make changes following Team USA’s disqualification in the men’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Carl Lewis, a nine-time Olympic gold medalist, said the disqualification was “completely unacceptable” and that USATF needs to “take a hard look at what’s going on.”

Team USA was disqualified for a baton exchange violation. The team’s lead runner, Christian Coleman, passed the baton to Noah Lyles outside the designated passing zone.

Lewis said the disqualification was “a huge embarrassment” for the United States. He said that USATF needs to “get its act together” and make sure that something like this doesn’t happen again.

“This is not the first time that Team USA has been disqualified in a major relay event,” Lewis said. “It’s happened too many times. USATF needs to take a hard look at what’s going on and make some changes.”

Lewis said that he is not sure what specific changes need to be made, but he said that USATF needs to “figure it out.”

“We can’t keep having these embarrassing disqualifications,” Lewis said. “It’s time for USATF to step up and make some changes.”
